Head of Engineering (Tech Lead) China Office (m/f/d)

Your tasks
Be a key player in our China-based engineering activities and bring our product concepts through all the various sample stages to mass production working closely with our internal engineers and designers as well as the engineering departments of our ODMs. 
With your keen eye and understanding of the core intent of our product development team – particularly goals in acoustic, product design, and user experience – you will bring these concepts to full blossom and make them happen in the final product.
You know the supplier landscape and manage the new product development with the supplier team and our in-house engineers in a joint development approach.
In this role you should strongly support leadership decision making on complex issues by clarifying issues and presenting feasible options with advantages and disadvantages of each option.
 
As an experienced team lead, you have a good feeling for team dynamics and help each member to grow and go beyond their individual limits.

  • Understand where the engineering progress for each projects stands and guiding development activities to achieve product delivery as specified (Quality, Time, Cost).
  • Work with engineers/designers to clarify advantages and disadvantages of technical solution options.
  • Manage the exchange with suppliers during the RFQ phase according to known project risks and present these findings to the project team.
  • Perform cost comparison analyses and cost reduction investigations during RFQ phase 
  • Deal with dynamically changing information, help to continually tweak and refine the approach while being in constant communication with all engineering-related players to ensure the successful delivery of the products.
  • Have a “gut feeling” for impeding issues, pain points etc. that arise throughout the course of project development and help to steer activities to resolve them, i.e. bring the right people together to find solutions.
  • Form a bridge between our Germany and China based offices.
  • Create a work environment in which all team members can maximize their individual impact, and where a safe, open-minded, and productive environment is established
  • Also be team lead of our China based Mechanic and Acoustic Engineers. 

Workplace: Dongguan, China
Reporting line: VP of Engineering in Germany
Travel Requirements: 1 or 2 times German BIZ trip each year 

Your profile
  • Proven track record in leading cross-functional engineering activities in consumer electronic products
  • Experience in working with joint development suppliers and contract manufacturers, and familiarity with the local supplier landscape
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills to earn trust and influence partners as well as teams
  • Can-do attitude and proactive solution provider for all the different issues inherent to a big development program 
  • Open to and excited about new technologies and challenges
  • Genuine interest in people and empathic approach to social situations
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Language skills: English fluent; Chinese, German are nice to have
